Type: Single Malt
With a black and gold label, this good looking Penderyn had pinned its 41. Beyond the appearance, this elegance is related also and above all to the whisky itself. Refined in Madeira Wine barrels (like its older sister) this version is the ideal introduction to the one and only Welsh whisky. This product is enriching a range which also includes a Peated Penderyn and a Sherry cask Penderyn, paying tribute to the work of Gillian Howell, Master distiller.
• Color: bright gold.
• Fragrance: sweet and steady in the same moment. Creamy and herby (cut hay, dead leaves) is at the same time spicy (pepper, cinnamon) and gourmand (grapes with botrytis bunch rot, fir honey). The plant character (chlorophyll) and empyreaumatic (eucalyptus) overcomes little by little the other fragrances. It then goes to nuts liquor, liquorices and spicy green peppers.
• Taste: vivid and tight. As in the fragrances, you can taste spices, liquorices and spicy green peppers. In the middle of the mouth you can taste ripe fruits (apricot, plum) and exotic fruit (persimmon, guava). The final reminds one of a dry Madeira wine made from Sercial grapes.
• Aftertaste: sweet, balanced, showing proof of serenity and fullness. Black fruits (blueberry, currant) and intoxicating flowers (violet, lavender) are side by side with dried fruit (dates, almonds) and durmast barrels notes. Sensual notes of pipe tobacco and vanilla stay inside the empty glass.
