Auchentoshan viene fondata nel 1823 da John Bulloch, un mercante di mais, che però andò subito in fallimento solo 5 anni più tardi. Dopo un tentativo del figlio di riprendere in mano quanto lasciato dal padre, nel 1834 la distilleria venne venduta a John Hart, distillatore di Bullock, e al contadino locale, Alexander Filshie, che ne rimase il proprietario per più di 40 anni.
Dopo un raccolto fallimentare, Auchentoshan venne venduta nuovamente e da quel momento si susseguirono svariati proprietari differenti per circa un secolo, fino alla seconda metà del XIX secolo, quando Auchentoshan iniziò a guadagnarsi la reputazione di single Malt.
Auchentoshan è ora di proprietà della Beam Suntory una delle tre distillerie ancora aperte a Glasgow ed è famosa per essere l’unica a fare tripla distillazione dei propri whisky.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
