"La Alteña" distillery was founded by Don Felipe Camarena Hernandez on 7 July 1937 in Arandas, under the name "Camarena Hermanos SA".
Nowadays the property has passed into the hands of his son Carlos Camarena, who continues the family tradition in the production of a 100% agave azul tequila with an artisanal process that has remained unchanged over time.
The agaves used come entirely from plantations owned by the family, cooking takes place exclusively in traditional pot stills and the grinders used for the press are the typical stone tahonas.
The natural fermentation takes place in wooden vats, while the distillation is carried out in discontinuous copper stills, while for aging are used barrels that previously hosted Bourbon or Tennesse Whiskey.
Tapatio is a tequila deriving from 100% agave azul and handcrafted by the Camarena family in the high plains of Jalisco. Discover all Tapatio tequila on Spirit Academy!
