On 31 December 1959, Don Jorge Salles Cuervo, who had been working for more than 20 years at local distillery companies, decided to pursue his dream and set up his own distillery. He named it El Tequileño in honour of the birthplace of Tequila.
Today, three generations later, the family's legacy continues to influence the production of tequila of the highest quality.

The house of el tequileño is the historic distillery La Guarreña, located in the magical city of Tequila. It represents one of only 8 brands of tequila produced exclusively in its own distillery.
The highest quality agaves come from the highlands of Jalisco, the region where the blue agave is grown. The mineral-rich soil produces agaves with a naturally higher sugar content.
A truckload of agave takes four hours to travel from the highlands to the distillery in the town of Tequila, but for Don Jorge the work, time and transport was a small price to pay to get the character he wanted for his tequila.
All Tequilas are distilled exclusively in copper stills, in order to better remove unwanted impurities and obtain a pure tequila full of character.
Sustainability has always been an important goal for El tequileño, ever since its foundation in 1959.
Currently, 98% of production residues are converted into organic compost. This compost is then used as fertiliser for the next generation of agaves. In addition to leading efforts to conserve local water sources.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
