The annual launch of Diageo's Special Release Collection is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events for whisky lovers. With more than 30 distilleries in the Diageo portfolio, Master Blender Craig Wilson has 10 million casks to draw from and can count on the top of the biggest names.
This year's collection consists of eight extraordinary whiskies, rich in flavours and ageings that redefine the concept of Cask Strength: each of them, from the richest to the rarest, offers a wide palette of contrasts, experimenting with ageing techniques that include ex-Tawny Port and ex-Red Muscat casks.
The bottles are embellished with illustrations by Ken Taylor and Kevin Tong, transporting into a world of mythological animals and legends.
A Single Malt that has been aged for 12 years in a combination of intensely burnt virgin and American oak barrels. An authentic expression of Lagavulin, salty and sweetly spiced, phenolic and rich with deep smoky notes.
An unusual Single Malt for Clynelish, which differs from the distillery's typical waxiness in favour of a more spicy sweetness, brought about by ageing in refill American oak casks, and subsequent maturation in ex-Sherry PX/Oloroso casks.
A Single Malt aged for 11 years in ex-bourbon first fil casks, refilled and matured in wine casks. Sweet and fruity, with classic hints of pepper and smoke, this lightly peaty whisky features a sinuous jellyfish on the label, illuminating the ocean depths. (You can wear it but the stories do not specify that it is a jellyfish that is the luminous creature).
A Single Malt that has been aged for 10 years in American virgin oak barrels and refills, and then further refined in ex-Sherry and ex-Amontillado barrels. Soft and rich in sweet fruity notes, with slight salty hints of smoke.
A rare expression of Single Malt for Cardhu, characterised by an unusual tropical sweetness achieved by ageing in barrels containing Jamaican rum. Aged for 16 years, very elegant and creamy, with a refreshing saline touch.
A Single Malt aged initially in American and European oak casks, and then matured for a further 8 years in red wine casks, the persistence of which is subtle and elegant. Sweet and spicy notes, typical of Glen Ord.
A Single Malt that has been matured in a combination of ex-Port Tawny, ex-Redwood, American refill oak and virgin casks, with no stated age. An excellent balance of Mortlach's typical meatiness in addition to a fruity sweetness a spicy depth unique to Speyside.
For the first time Cameronbridge is selected for Diageo's annual Special Release, and presents a Single Grain aged for 26 years in refill American oak barrels. Soft and rich in vanilla, fruity and toffee notes with nuances of black pepper and spice.

Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
