The Black Balzams was mentioned for the first time in 1752 associated with the pharmacist Abraham Kunze of Riga. Legend says that the Tsarina Catherine during a visit to the city in Latvia became ill and was able to recover herself thanks to this aromatic elixir. In fact, it contains 24 different ingredients including flowers, buds, juices, roots, essential oils and berries infused in vodka inside oak barrels.

It is not so much the recipe that is secret, but the production process that only the master distiller and his collaborators know. Then the Black Balzams is bottled in the elegant ceramic bottle that offers the best protection from light, heat and cold.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
