The 'Cosmo' is certainly one of the most famous 'modern classics'. It's no coincidence that it features in Candace Bushnell's best-selling novel, which went on to inspire the TV show Sex and the City, in which Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones and the rest of her friends like to sip this cocktail to toast their misadventures and special moments. The Cosmo has become one of those iconic cocktails that become so popular that they are included in novels and films (see James Bond and his Martinis), which is why we can call it a classic cocktail, even though it was only born just over 30 years ago.
Created in 1988 at the Odeon by the creative mind of the great Toby Cecchini, the Cosmopolitan was an immediate success, so much so that it was recognised worldwide, influencing an entire category of cocktails thanks to the talent of Mr Cecchini who, in turn, influenced an entire generation of bartenders. The Midwestern bartender created the perfect balance of lemon flavoured vodka, cranberry juice, fresh lime and Triple Sec, with the original 2:1:1:1 proportions.
And Cheryl Cook? According to another version, it was actually the bartender at the Strand in South Beach who invented 'Cosmo', hence the dispute over the motherhood/paternity of the cocktail, which is certainly named after the famous women's fashion magazine. Mrs. Cook was asked to create a cocktail using lemon-flavoured vodka from a famous Swedish brand as a base. She instinctively added Triple Sec, lemon cordial and a touch of cranberry juice to give the cocktail its classic pinkish hue. Cheryl recounts that on the very night he served the first Cosmopolitan, word spread so quickly among the club's patrons that within 45 minutes everyone had one in front of them.
Without arguing too much about who actually created the Cosmopolitan, Toby Cecchini's version is the most interesting of all: it is decidedly more citric than all the others, but it is this slight acidic perception that makes it extremely pleasant and refreshing to drink, and the colour takes on the iconic light pink, slightly opalescent note.
The Cosmopolitan really influenced a decade of mixology worldwide: served in the "Y" cup, it pushed bartenders to reinvent or probably create a new category of "Martinis" from scratch: this is how legendary cocktails like the Apple Martini, the Pornstar Martini or the Lemon Drop were born.

Today, in the way of drinking cocktails, we tend to appreciate more and more the acid part, that is the element that, if well balanced, helps us to sip the cocktail enjoying a pleasant freshness. We have therefore decided to propose only Toby Cecchini's original recipe, certainly the most interesting of the many possible variants.
Toby Cecchini ratio
60 ml Vodka Stoli Citron
15 ml lime or lemon juice
15 ml Triple Sec Liqueur Monin
15 ml cramberry juice Ocean Spray
Pour all ingredients into a shaker.
Add plenty of ice and shake vigorously for a few seconds.
Pour into a chilled double Martini glass.

Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
