It was founded by long-time friends Rande Gerber, Mike Meldman and actor George Clooney, who coined the motto: 'Tequila made by friends for friends', precisely to emphasise the extreme informality and convivial atmosphere in which the project was born. Not only that: according to the original idea, the intention would have been to create a 'homemade' tequila, to be tried only by friends, as they themselves declared:
"We worked on creating Casamigos with our Master Distiller in Jalisco for years, and held many blind tastings until we realised we had found it. We have been drinking our tequila for many years now, and originally had no intention of selling it to the public. It's what we serve when we're in Mexico: it's literally our home tequila'.
The first request made to the Master Distiller by Gerber, Meldman and Clooney was to create a tequila that did not need to be covered in salt and lime to be enjoyed. For this reason, only the best Tequilana Weber Blue agave is hand-selected from the rich clay soil of the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.
This is the only variety present in each of the three tequilas in the range. The piñas are roasted in a process that includes the use of traditional wood-fired ovens and softened for three days, but the real stroke of genius at Casamigos lies in the extremely slow fermentation process: 80 hours in total, which is twice as long as the standard.
These are the only known details for an extremely slow process that leads to the unique aroma of Casamigos: the recipe is of course secret and jealously guarded. Each bottle is numbered and signed by Gerber and Clooney, with minimalist and elegant packaging that reflects the style of its creators.

Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
