It is said that the best ideas come in the most unexpected moments and places, and the five guys from Kyrö know something: to them, the idea of setting up an artisanal rye whisky and gin distillery came while they were taking a sauna.
Why rye? Because Finland is literally full of them - and as Mikko, the co-founder says, in Finland apart from birches, lakes, Helsinki and precisely rye there is not much else. Since the idea of opening a distillery still seemed good the morning after the sauna, the search for a suitable location began. After the first unsuccessful attempts, in 2012 a closed old dairy was found in the quiet village of Isokyrö. The closest pot still was hundreds of kilometers away and was kindly loaned out for the first time.
The distillery started smoking in 2014, and hasn't stopped since. While the first batch of whisky rested in the barrels, gin production began, and both immediately began winning awards and accolades around the world, expanding their market beyond national borders.
Finnish rye was born in a rather hostile climate and on questionable soil, but it is precisely these hostile conditions that make it strong and resistant, able to give more flavor and more character to the spirits. Its distillation is difficult, but the Finnish people say they are used to complicated things.
Kyrö Malt is the first single batch Finnish rye whiskey: after a double distillation, it is aged in American white oak barrels.
Kyrö Gin is made up of 13 traditional botanicals that take us directly to the heart of Finnish nature. Green pines, birch wood, expanses of herbs and wild flowers, sea buckthorn and other shrubs: these are the scents, aromas and suggestions of the Finnish forests, which can be recognized by drinking one of these spirits born from an evening spent in a sauna.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
