In 1885, Fernand Moureaux inherited a family distillery in Maisons-Alfort. To save the company from the brink of bankruptcy, he joined forces with Henri Porte, the son of his bank manager, to create a new aperitif. The two believed in the future of chilled aperitifs and in the potential to enhance a brand, so they went against the tide and revolutionised the aperitif: instead of basing it on wine, they used a plant... gentian!

As for the name, it is said to be the name of Fernand's sister-in-law who particularly loved the gentian aperitif, or, it is derived from a small river in Switzerland near where Fernand first collected the ingredients for this famous formula.
In fact, the origin of the name Suze remains a mystery to this day.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
