El Amparo Ron was born from the ingenuity and perseverance of Gonzalo Almanzor Zorrilla Toala, maternal grandfather of the current owner, belonging to the third generation of the tradition of producing this product from Ecuador.
The origin of the name comes from the name given to the plot of land where Gonzalo started planting sugar cane.

The type of cane used in the production of El Amparo Ron is commonly known as cubana negra. It is an herbaceous, perennial, woody-stemmed species belonging to a genus (Saccharum) of the grass family, native to Melanesia, whose main species is Saccharum officinarum.
The only tool used for cutting is a hand blades, and the cut is made by leaving about 15 cm below the cane bud, with the sole purpose of not getting too much acidity in the cane juice at the time of grinding, as this piece has not yet reached the necessary maturity for the process.
The still used is made of copper and the pot capacity is 500 litres, while the fermentation time of the sugar cane juice depends on the sugar content of the sugar cane and varies from 5 to 7 days.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
