It's another Tequila Sunrise
Starin' slowly 'cross the sky
With these words begins the song by the Eagles, released in 1973 and immediately becoming such a hit that it is believed to have somehow helped popularise the Tequila Sunrise.
This evocative cocktail, with its bright colours and warm ingredients that make you think of the sun, was born with a rather different recipe.
The original Tequila Sunrise was invented in the late 1930s and early 1940s by Gene Suilt, a bartender at the Arizona Biltimore Hotel, who mixed together tequila, lime juice, crème de cassis and soda. The definitive and later codified by the IBA version of the long drink, based on tequila, orange juice and grenadine, was allegedly created in the early 1970s by Bobby Lazoff and Billy Rice, of the Trident Bar & Restaurant in Sausalito, California.
The fame of the Tequila Sunrise, as well as the Eagles' song of the same name, is also due to the famous 1988 film starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Mel Gibson, which was released in Italy as Tequila connection, but whose original title is precisely Tequila sunrise.
A note of colour: despite being tequila-based, this cocktail is not as popular - as in the US - in Mexico, where it is apparently mostly ordered by tourists.

The Tequila Sunrise is very popular in summer but can be drunk all year round, especially as an aperitif, but also after dinner for a Latin evening.
To prepare it, one uses the build technique, i.e. pouring directly into the glass - preferably a highball - carefully,so as to obtain the effect of the sunrise. If you do not wish to use ice, the glass should be placed in the freezer for a couple of minutes before preparation.
As always, the quality of the ingredients used makes all the difference, so the most care must be taken when choosing tequila and grenadine, as well as of course the best oranges to squeeze the fresh juice.

4,5cl Tequila
9cl fresh orange juice
1.5cl Monin Grenadine Syrup
Pour fresh orange juice and tequila directly into the highball glass, either with ice or by chilling the glass.
Add a splash of grenadine syrup: to create the colour effect pour it against the wall of the glass, without mixing.
Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
