Demerara Distillers

Guyana

The story of Demerara Distillers began in 1670 when each sugar estate still had its own rum, and a group of sugar cane producers formed an export cooperative. This first production of rum for sailors was the beginning of today's society. During the 17th and 18th centuries, there were over 200 small distilleries operating in Guyana, each with its special blend of rum and its independent plantations. Over the years, however, the only distillery that has managed to override the competition and remain standing is the Plantation Diamond, entirely managed by Demerara Distillers Limited.
