Originally from Japan, the Shinshu Mars distillery began producing whisky in 1949, but the Hombo family, its founder, had been distilling for several generations before. Its founder is Kiichiro Iwai, the man who started the export to Scotland of the famous Masataka Taketsuru and, more importantly, the owner of a spirit company that produced shochu (a typical Japanese brandy).

The Shinshu Mars is the highest Japanese distillery and benefits from an exceptional geographical situation that offers its whiskies a completely unique character: it is, in fact, situated at 900 meters above sea level in a region with a harsh climate, surrounded by water sources pure. Their whiskies are elegant and complex; of course it represent an excellent approach to Japanese whisky, according to many, at the same level of its Scottish cousins.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
