Citadelle Gin is produced by the historic distillery of the same name following an original recipe dating back to 1775. In the port of Dunkirk, one of the first on the way back to Europe for companies trading with the Orient, some distillers tried infusing purchased spices with alcohol and distilling them: thus this French gin was born.
Citadelle Gin is made from 19 different spices: French juniper, violet root, Moroccan cordiander, Spanish almond and lemon peel, orange peel from Mexico, angelica from Germany, Indian cardamom, cassia bark from Indochina, cinnamon from Sri Lanka, Chinese liquorice, grains from West Africa, Java pepper, Dutch cumin, French star anise, nutmeg, Italian fennel and iris. These botanicals are subjected to a progressive infusion to extract the maximum aromatic concentration from each spice.
The distillery, led by Master Alexandre Gabriel, is located at the Château de Bonbonnet, in Charente, and the nine stills used come from the same region.
This multi-award-winning gin has a delicate nose full of aromas, among which juniper stands out. On the palate it is elegant and smooth, with a finish that brings out the cardamom.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
