The Chartreuse liqueur dates back to 1605, when in a monastery near Paris, monks received a manuscript as a gift from Henry IV's marshal, containing the recipe of an alchemist who was an expert in herbs and could process them to create a beneficial remedy.
After years spent trying to interpret the manuscript, the first practical formula for the reproduction of this 'Elixir of Long Life' was created in the early 1700s. Today, this recipe is reproduced exclusively by the monks of the Chartreuse, who use the ancient manuscript to recreate what is now called the 'élixir végétale de la Grande-Chartreuse'.
The recipe, kept secret, contains 130 herbs that are macerated in quality alcohol and then distilled. It is then aged in oak barrels in the evocative cellars of Voiron.
Chartreuse Verte is the only liqueur in the world with a completely natural green colour. It is recommended to be consumed at a very cold temperature. Traditionally regarded as an after-dinner digestive, but increasingly also used as a long drink.
MAXIMUM ONE BOTTLE PER CUSTOMER
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
