The history of the distillery is closely linked to the figure of John Smith, the first manager of Glenrothes, whose expertise and dedication were such that they were even celebrated in popular verse:

"John Smith he is our manager, in him we take great pride. Search the country round about, the like is no on Speyside."

Maturation takes place in a selection of sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks. American oak imparts bright notes of vanilla and toasted sweetness, while European oak adds spicy intensity, woody richness and depth. Each cask has been tasted and approved by the Master Whisky Maker, who has selected only those that best express the evolution achieved after 32 years. The colour is completely natural, the exclusive result of long ageing in wood, without additives.
