The distillery Springbank, owned and operated by the Mitchell family in Campbeltown since 1837, is one of Scotland's most highly regarded distilleries. After a brief shutdown between 1979 and 1987, a decision was made when it reopened to cease all sales to the blending industry and concentrate on single malt sales. Today it is one of only two distilleries in Scotland to malt, distill, bottle and mature whiskey in the same location.
The distillery's focus on bottling single malts means that its warehouses hold some fantastic vintages that have escaped the hands of blenders over the years and become increasingly rare. This very rare piece, only 120 in number, was distilled in 1950 and bottled in December 1990.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
