Chichibu's geographical location is crucial to the unique character of its whiskies, thanks to a mountainous climate characterised by a wide temperature range: cold winters, often below zero, and hot, humid summers, frequently over 30°C.
This temperature variation subjects the cask wood to constant expansion and contraction, accelerating the maturation process. The Angel's Share, in fact, is very high, at around 3/4% each year: about twice as high as in Scotland. This gives the whiskies, even young ones, a surprising maturity and complexity.
The purest water from the nearby Arakawa River is used for production.
Despite being a micro-distillery with a limited capacity (about 60,000 litres per year), Chichibu excels in the craftsmanship of the process:
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
