The Amrut distillery was founded in 1948 in Bangalore by Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale. Initially devoted to the production of distillate from molasses, in the wake of the strong growth in domestic demand for low-cost products, the distillery changed its quality with the advent of its successor Neelakanta Rao Jagdale, who in 1982 decided to devote himself solely to whisky high-end malt.
Exploiting the speed of ripening influenced by the sub-tropical climate, with an angel's share of around 11-12 %, Amrut released the first Single Malt after just 18 months, marking a historic date for the country's production.
A true revelation in the tasting of the first bottles that arrived in Europe only ten years ago, Amrut boasts a team of Malt Masters who periodically visit the most important distilleries in Scotland to bring the company's production standards closer to those of the old continent. The current plant in operation dates back to 1987 and has six stainless steel fermenters of 10000 litres each and two conical pot stills with copper condensers of 5000 litres each.
The barley used belongs to a traditional variety grown in the Punjab region, with very small grains and a great flavour profile. The water used comes from a nearby reservoir, located in an area not far from the completely pesticide-free distillery, owned by the Jagdale family. First-fill and second-fill American oak casks are used for maturation, while brandy, sherry and rum casks are used in some cases for finishing. The distillery has also recently installed a cooperage facility. Amrut has made the variety of its range of Single Malts a strong point, in some cases inspired by the aromatics of the Highlands, in others by the peatiness of Islay.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
