The Seale family has made the history of rum in Barbados over the past 130 years as they have been operating as blenders since 1883. In 1992 Richard Seale joined the company, acquired the Doorly's brand in 1993 and in 1996 began the construction of the Foursquare Distillery, in the south of the island, a project carried out by Green Engineering, a company based in Siena specialized in advanced distillation plants.

Today Richard Seale, despite having one of the most modern distilleries in the world, is a traditionalist and a purist, and his rums are free from any external additives, no sugars, no caramel, no chips ...
Richard is considered one of the best distillers in the Caribbean, as well as one of the last remaining totally independent.
The molasses come from different countries and are fermented with a medium duration and intensity process, then the distillation takes place both in a double column with 40 copper plates and in a beautiful Forsyth Double Retort Pot Still with a small column.
The Foursquare rums are in fact Single Blended Rums: Richard is a great supporter of the balance in rums, so he mixes the lightest part of the distillate in a double column with the heavy part from Pot Still, like the typical British style of Barbados.
Even for the aged, the peculiarity of Foursquare is that of blending the distillate in a continuous column and in a pot still directly in the barrels; it is therefore a Single blended in the barrel.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
