In the 1970s and 1980s, Michter's Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery's most popular product. Although the nickname 'Sour Mash' derives from the whiskey-making process of the same name, Michter's Original Sour Mash stood out for its unique taste.
Due to its special grain selection, it cannot be classified as a rye or a bourbon. After disappearing from the market in 1989, Michter's Original Sour Mash Whiskey made a triumphant return in 2012 with its introduction in the US★1 line.
Like all the other whiskeys in the range, US★1, Sour Mash is produced in Small Batch, small production batches that never exceed 24 casks in order to preserve the uniqueness of each individual batch.
The casks used are new, made of American oak and charred on the inside. A whiskey reminiscent of cinnamon on the palate, with a buttery mouthfeel followed by a peppery, spicy finish.
Staying true to the profile and palate of its predecessor, Michter's US★1 Sour Mash has quickly become a favourite among whisky enthusiasts. It was named 'Whisky of the Year' for 2019 by The Whisky Exchange, the first US-produced whisky to achieve this honour.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
