On the banks of the Spey river, in a 150-hectare natural park, stands the Easter Elchies House, a Jacobite manor built in the 1700s that still today is the center of the site where the Macallan Whiskies are distilled: the most popular single malts by collectors. The distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley grower and teacher who initially called it Maghellan, from the union of the words magh (meaning fertile land in Gaelic) and Ellan (name of the monk St. Fillan).

Today, almost 200 years after its birth, The Macallan brand is perhaps the best known and most appreciated in the Scotch world. Inside the distillery, owned by Highland Distillers, fourteen copper stills, very small and with an unusual shape, allow to preserve and concentrate the most sought after aromas. In the manufacturing process, only 16% of the final distillate is selected so that it becomes the original The Macallan. Today the Master Distiller, Bob Delgarno, works on two different product ranges depending on the woods used in the aging of liquids: Fine Oak and 1824 Series.
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
