There are aged rums, and there are rums that tell the story of time. Neisson Vieux AOC 21 Ans – Edition Spéciale Vélier definitely belongs to the latter category.
This release represents one of the longest maturations ever achieved by the historic Le Carbet distillery on the north-western coast of Martinique: 21 years spent entirely in a tropical climate, i.e. in the very place where the distillate is born. A very rare choice today, the result of which is an aromatic intensity that is impossible to replicate in Europe.
This rum comes from an ex-bourbon cask filled on 8 April 2004 and left to mature in the distillery's warehouses for over two decades.
On 16 April 2025, the 'dépotage' (emptying of the barrel) was carried out: just 170 litres at 53.6% vol. were obtained from a single barrel.
The rum was then approved by the AOC Martinique tasting committee on 30 April 2025. This essential certification guarantees not only the geographical origin, but also compliance with the traditional production methods of rhum agricole.
Only 240 bottles were bottled from this single cask exclusively for Velier.

This extraordinary rum has a rich and deep nose, with toasted hints of candied citrus and bitter orange peel, followed by sweet spices, noble woods and a hint of cocoa and dark chocolate. Time has transformed the vegetal notes of the rhum agricole into a mature complexity, almost like a great oxidative distillate.
The palate is lively and surprisingly dynamic for its age. The attack is intense but elegant: ripe fruit and toasted fruit, cocoa, natural vanilla and pepper. The wood is perfectly integrated and never dominates the distillate, a sign of rare balance after such a long tropical stay.

Discovered by the West following on from the Spanish, French and English conquests of the Indies, rum was originally a slave and seafarer drink. Used as bait by pirates in their attempts to get the...

The story of Neisson began in 1932, when the brothers Adrien and Jean Neisson bought La Thieulbert, a 20-hectare sugar cane estate on the northwest coast of Martinique. Adrien opened the first distillery...
Distillates have different alcoholpercentages. So, we have defined a parameter allowing you to better understand and compare different prices. This parameter is calculated by dividing the bottle price by the alcohol content. The alcohol content (or strength) is the amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) contained in the distillate.
This parameter indicates the price of a single 4cl dosage of distillate. It is calculated by dividing the price of the bottle by its quantity (expressed in cl), then multiplying by the centilitres of the recommended single dose, as average in cocktail recipes.
